South Africa and Morocco are battling to win the right to win the 2013 and 2014 FIFA Club World Cup.

Iran is also challenging to host the annual end-of-year tournament, as is the United Arab Emirates (UAE), who hosted the 2009 and 2010 tournaments.

South Africa Football Association Vice President Danny Jordaan expressed the country’s interest in light of the successful hosting of last summer’s FIFA World Cup, with 10 ready made venues to choose from.

"It is important that competitions like the Club World Cup come to Africa," said Jordaan.

The Club World Cup has seven fixtures with a play-off involving the league champions of the host nation and two quarter-finals. The South American and European champions enter the competition at the semi-finals stage.

The countries must place official bids by the end of September, with FIFA deciding the winner on October 21.

Morrocco, who beat off competition from South Africa to host the 2015 Africa Cup of Nations, are upgrading facilities in preparation for the tournament in four years time.

Previous host nations of the Club World Cup with the exception of Brazil in 2000 are all in Asia, with the UAE hosting it twice and Japan six times.

Past winners include European sides Barcelona and Inter Milan, English Champions Manchester United, Argentina’s Boca Juniors and Corinthians of Brazil.
