Product specialist appointed to drive distribution
Richard Phakiso Makwela is the new Western Digital (WD) Product Specialist with leading broad-based Information Communication Technology distribution company Drive Control Corporation.
Makwela has spent the past eight years in the retail field at Incredible Connection, the electrical goods chain which has 42 store locations in South Africa, and brings with him a wealth of experience and knowledge across a range of storage media.
DCC delivers ICT products and solutions to resellers spanning micro enterprises to large, established organisations.
With its head office in Johannesburg, South Africa this privately-held 100 per cent channel focused distributor employs more than 300 personnel with branches in Durban, Port Elizabeth, Cape Town, Namibia and Botswana.
Although its main business is in South Africa, DCC does business in the Southern African region.
As a product specialist, Makwela will be tasked with managing the WD brand and driving the product into the reseller and retail markets.
Makwela says he is excited about the growth opportunities his new position offers and is looking forward to educating the local consumer market about the WD product range and re-igniting the WD’s South African presence.
He said: “Taking up this position at a distributor like DCC was the next logical step for me in terms of career progression and growth. Having worked in the retail space for so many years I was ready for a new challenge and something different.”
Makwela will be responsible for promoting the WD brand to the South African channel as well as providing support to resellers.
He will also manage all the purchasing, sales and stock forecasts and keep abreast of market trends as well as manage the vendor relationship and ensure that the WD products are supported by strong products skills and knowledge.
In the future, he will be implementing several new strategies for growing the WD brand at DCC, which has been operating for more than 21 years.
